7-29-13 Fishing Report

I've learned over the years that with bass fishing, sometimes you have to expect the unexpected. Today was one of those times. With the fall like weather today and water temps below 70 again I fully expected there would be no surface bite so I started right off with a streamer. After about a half hour I had a few lookers but no takers. I figured if it's a tough bite I might as well make it more interesting by throwing a popper. To my delight, the popper bite was amazing! Not only was there a lot of action, but a few pigs came to the net as well.... man do I enjoy smallmouth bass!

7-24-13 Fishing Report

Today my good friend Matt Erny joined me on a research expedition to some new water. Although it was quite a fun adventure getting my boat through some pretty narrow sections of the Muskegon, the fishing wasn't as spectacular as I hoped it might be. We were rewarded with a few bass though, including this impressive smallmouth that smashed a Zudbubbler. More familiar sections of the river are fishing very well right now and should continue to be great for the next month.

New Magazine and Fishing Report

Bass fishing remains very good right now and should continue to get even better as long as we can stay on the dry side. I do have at least a couple openings every week through August, so don't miss out on summertime fun!

There's a pretty impressive new online magazine worth checking out found here: http://www.joomag.com/magazine/revive-a-quarterly-fly-fishing-journal-volume/0493981001367594223

It features some local stuff. Be sure to check out the fly tying video on page 64-65... Fellow bass bum Jeff Cole shows how to tie my Zudbubbler.

Thanks for following!

7-1-13 Fishing Report

Last night I fished the lower river and it was very muddy. Tough fishing, but managed to find a couple nice bass on poppers. Today I fished the upper river with my good friend Matt and we had a little better luck. The water was still very dirty from last weeks massive rain but the bite was slightly better. Here are a couple photos from today. Bass fishing should improve greatly if we can stay fairly dry for a while so the water clears up. Water temp is ideal for bass right now.
